The case study must critique the dilemma according to:
• the deontological or teleological ethical framework predominantly used in the case
• the main primary ethical theory used in the case
• either the AASW, APS or PACFA Code of Ethics
• whether or not the outcome of the case was ethical
Please be sure that you have selected a suitable case study for this assignment and not a report on, or meta-analysis of, an ethical dilemma. The article must focus on an actual case involving an ethical dilemma encountered in a practice situation.
Structuring the case study
Take particular note of how the case in the article you have chosen is set out, and the dilemma is analysed and discussed. This ought to aid your critique. The marking scheme provides the basic structure for the case study. The specific criteria serve as prospective headings, although these need to be tailored to the particular case. However, the case study must be shaped into a coherent narrative, and not simply form a series of unconnected responses to the criteria. There are no examples, since it is your ability to write an original case study not reproduce one, which is being assessed. It is also essential that you account for every word used. You must, therefore, ensure that the 1500 word limit is strictly adhered to. There is no extra 10% word allowance. Text in excess of the word limit will not be read, and hence, marked. Appendices, diagrams, direct quotes, face page, figures, page numbers, reference list, and tables are not included in the word count. Headings and in-text citations are counted.
Marking scheme
Twenty-five percent of the mark for this assignment is based on the general marking criteria. The remaining 75% of marks are based on the specific criteria.

Description of the case and dilemma. The description should be no more 100 words and written in your own words. It will serve as your introduction. Module 2 will assist you to recognise the dilemma.
An analysis and evaluation of course(s) of action taken or proposed from the perspective of the broad ethical framework followed in the case. Make sure that you identify the relevant ethical framework, i.e., deontology or teleology. Module 3 will aid you in identifying the most applicable ethical framework.
An analysis and evaluation of the course(s) of action taken or proposed from the perspective of the primary ethical theory applied in the case. Make sure that you identify the relevant theory, i.e., utilitarianism, Kantianism or virtue ethics. Module 4 will help you pinpoint the most prominent ethical theory.
An analysis and evaluation of possible course(s) of action taken or proposed from the perspective of a relevant code of professional ethics. Choose one profession code of ethics. Module 5 will enable you to choose a professional code of ethics.
A conclusion about the effectiveness of the course(s) of action taken or proposed. You need to come to a conclusion about whether or not the outcome was ethical, and specify why and how it was or wasn’t?

Literacy The extent to which your writing is fluent and free of grammatical and spelling errors. Emphasis is placed on clarity of expression and argumentation.
Organisation The extent to which you have ordered your views. Your points should be well integrated, coherent, and sequential. Use headings and sub-headings as necessary. An introduction and conclusion is essential.
Referencing The extent to which you have accurately referenced all sources in accordance with the APA referencing system.
